Navigating and Using Bookami®\Settings



The Settings Screen is where you can set several options for the Bookami® software. It is recommended that you go through each of these options in turn as these settings can have a big effect on your Book Folding Pattern creations. The settings screen can be access from most screens using the Common Icons in the header.

Initially, the main settings screen is shown, we will go through each area in detail below.


Details Tab

Copright Name – Enter your copyright details in here, this will display on the main heading on the front page of your pattern PDFs and also appear as the copyright text at the end of each page.

Address of website – Enter your website, your Etsy Shop or othe ronline shop in here. This will display on the front page of your pattern PDF




General Tab

Display Page Numbers or Folds – You can set here whether to display your patterns in page numbers (1,3,5,7,9,11…) or folds (1,2,3,4,5,6,,,).

Show completed Photo on the PDF – Select if you would like the PDF to be created showing a photo of the finished fold on the front page. A photo will only be shown on the PDF if this is set you to yes and you have added a photo to the pattern in the Previous Patterns section.

Where a photo is not available, show the silhouette – Select if when a photo has not been added (or the photo setting is set to ‘No’) if the PDF should be created showing the silhouette image on the front page.

If the above 2 options are both set to ‘No’ then no image will be displayed on the front page of the PDF.


Optimisation Tab

The following settings affect when patterns are optimised. To find out more about optimisation, please read the Bookami® Optimisation section.



On each pattern, ask me if I want to optimise – if this is set to yes, each time you create a pattern and the software detects that your pattern can be optimised, you will be asked the question, do you want to optimise. If you set this option to ‘No’, you will not be asked each time you create a pattern, however a further option will appear…


In that case do you want to always optimise – if you have selected not to be asked about optimisation every time, you then need to set a default answer. If you select ‘Yes’, then every pattern will automatically be optimised during creation (where applicable). If you choose ‘No’ then you will never be asked about optimisation and the pattern will not automatically optimise.


Cut & Fold Tab

The following options can affect pattern generation on Cut and Fold patterns, Shadows Cut and Fold patterns and Combi Cut and Fold patterns


Maximum Cuts on Cut and Fold Pattern – the default for this is ‘28’. This means you will only ever receive a maximum of 28 cuts per page. Some designers find this to be plenty ad do not want to generate patterns with huge amounts of points on each page. However, others prefer more intricate designs and so increase this number. The options are 14, 28, 42 and 56. Note that selecting 56 means that you could have a possible 56 cut points per page in your patterns which can be a little daunting! This settings will affect any method of pattern which involves some aspect of cut and fold (Standard Cut & Fold, Shadow and Combi)

Ask me if I want to include Inset Pages – this setting will only affect Standard Cut and Fold Patterns. Cut & Fold patterns can include inset pages. This is where every other page of the book does not include measurements. Instead it becomes an ‘Inset Page’. Inset pages are folded back entirely by 1cm (or more depending on your preference). Some designers like Inset Pages as they bulk the pattern out, others prefer not to use them. Some designers mix and match depending on the pattern they are creating. For more intricate designs it is advised to not include Inset pages. When this setting is set to ‘Yes’, whenever you create a Cut & Fold pattern you will be asked if you would like to include Inset Pages. If this is set to ‘No’, a further option is displayed…



In that case do you want to always include Inset Pages – if you select that you do not want to be asked each time you create a pattern, you can set the default here. Instead of being prompted, it will always use this answer.



Backup Button

Clicking this button will perform a Bookami® backup.


The backup will automatically be saved to your desktop

All Bookami backup files have the following naming convention…



YYYY – the year when the backup was made.

MM – the month when the backup was made.

DD – the day when the backup was made.

HH – the hour when the backup was made.

MM – the minute when the backup was made.

vXXX – the version number that this backup is compatible with


For example, if you made a backup on 1st March 2016 at 13:05 and you were using Bookami® version 2.1.0, your backup would be named:


It is strongly recommended to perform regular backups and save the Backup files to an external device such as a USB drive or stick. The backup can be used to restore all of your silhouettes, patterns and settings should you ever need to reinstall the software. This is the only way to guarantee you do not lose all of your work.

In this settings screen you can see when the date and time of when the last backup was performed.


Restore Button

Clicking this button will perform a Bookami® restore. You will be prompted to select your Bookami® backup file to begin the restore.


Once a file has been selected, the restore will begin.


You will be notified once the restore is complete.


Important note – restoring from a backup replaces everything in the software with the details contained in your Bookami® backup file. Any silhouettes added, patterns created, or settings changed, after the backup was performed and before your restore, will be lost.
